Season 4 Episode 13 of the Chasing MacNaughton Podcast from Tech Hockey Guide; Bar-B-Que Water Part 2. This week is the second part of last week’s episode after Harrison Watt left, so Tim Braun, Dustin Lindstrom and Matt Cavender were guestless. In this episode they discussed Michigan Tech’s series against Northern Michigan, their thoughts on the standout players for Tech so far and Tech’s upcoming series against Lake Superior State.

Northern Michigan series recap

Tim said he would have laughed if he had seen the line charts for the weekend and someone told him Tech would come away with four points. However, he then gave kudos to the team for nearly sweeping Minnesota State and Northern Michigan in back to back weekends and pointed out several good things that Tech did on the weekend. The guys provided an explanation for the two minor and one major penalties that Northern took at the same time, but were not exactly thrilled with how Tech’s power play looked during the sequence. The guys talked about part of the problem possibly being the injuries Tech currently has on the defensive side. Dustin talked about his experience following the game through Twitter while on vacation. Tim thought it was nice to see Tech respond at home on Saturday and also thought this Tech team seems more determined and scrappy than years past.

A little later in the show, the guys gave credit to both the Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech crowds on the weekend. Matt thought the atmosphere was better than he could have ever dreamed of when he was a part of the Misfits. Tim thought that it was the best atmosphere for a regular season game in a long time.

Standout guys

The guys discussed some of Michigan Tech’s players who have been injured and when they may be back. Then, they took a dive into the players that have stood out to them so far this season. Tim talked about Levi Stauber working hard and Matt agreed that he was playing like he wanted to be there. The guys also mentioned Kyle Kukkonen and Jack Works as two players that have been fun to watch. Dustin thought that Ryland Mosley has been the bright spot on the team, and Tim thought Mosley is on pace to be the CCHA player of the year. The guys also talked about some of the clutch goals that Mosley has scored this season.

Lake Superior series preview

The guys did a brief preview of the series for Tech against Lake Superior State, though at the time of recording it was still a couple weekends away. Matt said that Tech cannot count the Lakers out and thought that Tech bye week should be nothing but good for them to get guys healthy. Tim thought Tech’s last series against the Lakers would help to prepare them for the second time around. Matt picked a Tech sweep as did Dustin. Tim thought that Tech should sweep but said if Lake Superior State shows life against Bemidji State (spoiler alert: they did), then it may not be a sweep.

Random end of show items

At the end of the episode, the guys talked for a couple minutes about former Husky Steve Jensen who passed away in November. Steve appeared in two national championship games for Tech and was a part of the 1976 US Olympic hockey team. After discussing Steve, Dustin talked about his recent vacation which involved a lot of golf.
