On the back of a stellar start to his sophomore campaign, Blake Pietila (Howell, MI) has been given WCHA Goaltender of the Month honors for the month of December 2020.
While 2020 is a year most people would rather forget, Pietila ended the year making it one to remember. Pietila is tied for most wins by a WCHA goaltender and is second in goals against average with 1.52. His shutout in the second game against Bemidji State was one of only two shutouts posted by WCHA goaltenders in the month of December. His 43 saves against Minnesota State on the 6th of the month currently holds up as the most shots a WCHA goaltender has turned aside in a single game, a number that is also good enough to put him 7th nationally.
Pietila has proven to be a stud against some of the league’s top teams, and we look forward to him continuing that kind of performance against Alabama Huntsville this weekend and throughout the rest of the season.
Congratulations to Blake on his first monthly honor of his career! We here at Tech Hockey Guide wish nothing but success for the goaltender for the rest of his Huskies career and beyond.
