This week, both Colin Swoyer has earned WCHA defenseman of the week and Blake Pietila has earned Goaltender of the Week status.

This past weekend, junior defenseman Colin Swoyer (Jr., Hinsdale, Ill) led all WCHA defensemen in points, notching 2 assists during Sunday’s win over the Bemidji State Beavers. Swoyer added to his impressive weekend by also leading the league in blocked shots, eating 5 pucks on the weekend. He had a +/- of +2 as well.

Sophomore goaltender Blake Pietila (So., Howell, MI) gets to add to his award pile for the second time in as many weeks. Pietila was last week’s WCHA Rookie of the Week honors, but this week he takes home Goaltender of the Week honors. Pietila recorded 31 saves during Sunday’s 3-0 shutout of Bemidji State. He was the only goaltender in the league to record a goose egg in net this week. This was the second win in the sophomore’s career, as well as his first shutout. Pietila also stopped 10 shots on Saturday in relief of Mark Sinclair.

The Huskies will look to improve their season this weekend with a home-and-home series with the Northern Michigan Wildcats. Check back later in the week for the Chasing MacNaughton podcast, Jonathan Zamaites’s series preview and Mike Anleitner’s Old Dog in Texas column.
