US Bank Arena Hosts 2017 Midwest Regional

Where to go to cheer on your Michigan Tech Huskies in the NCAAs

With the Huskies’ win over the BGSU Falcons last Saturday, the Huskies secured their bid to the 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional in Cincinnati, Ohio., and many MTU friends and family are considering the trip. If you’re among them, you are likely looking to get the full NCAA tournament experience: eat some good bar food, talk some hockey and spend time with black and gold-clad fellow Tech fans. Here’s the outline of where we know MTU fans will be congregated and tips for experiencing Cincinnati in the best way possible.

The Arena

US Bank Arena is located right downtown, in between the Great American Ballpark and the Ohio River. Tickets are $40 for both games or $30 for just Saturday’s, and are currently available on Ticketmaster.com. You might want to wait to buy your tickets at the box office. Ticketmaster is charging $10 in fees for the event. With a capacity of 17,000+, US Bank Arena won’t be sold out by the time you get there.

We will update when we know which sections will be in the Michigan Tech block so you can buy your seats near other MTU fans. If you’re worried about seats, email the athletic department at tickets@mtu.edu to join the block of 400 set aside for MTU fans.

Michigan Tech fans are encouraged to buy their tickets in sections 126 and 128

Hotels

Many MTU fans have already booked at the Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn & Suites. The Homewood Suites is currently only showing king rooms available for $199 while the Hampton Inn is showing for $189. Pro While there may be many MTU fans staying in downtown Cincinnati, the Streetcar System is very good. Try staying in nearby Covington, in walking distance to the arena via pedestrian bridge in Newport, KY, or stay north of downtown to save a few dollars. Download the Cincy EZ Ride App for ease of use.

 Food

The Michigan Tech Alumni Association is hosting a Pregame Social at The Holy Grail, on the other side of the Great American Ballpark. The event starts at 11:30am, so get there early! After the game, check out one of Cincy’s many breweries available via Street Car. Try and hit up Tafts Ale House and Rhinegeist. Christian Moerlein Tap House is also a great spot.

Feeling Adventurous?

If you’re like most of our readership, then you’ve never been to Kentucky. If you want to change that, walk across the pedestrian bridge from Smale Riverfront Park. You can also head to the Hofbrauhaus in Newport, KY for some Bavarian Bier.

If you’re on off your own, make your way to Eli’s BBQ Cincy, which comes very highly recommended for a hole-in-the-wall place.
